Gernika, living history of Basque people
The Assembly House and the Tree of Gernika are the best representatives of our essence. Authentic symbols of of Basque freedom and identity that not even the tragic bombing of 1937 managed to overthrow.
All things Basque
Basque people are unique: They speak a language of their own and stick to deeply-rooted traditions
Basque people have strong ties to the land and the sea – the two elements that have forged their unique identity, based on strongly held customs and traditions, an out-of-this-world cuisine, a series of traditional rural sports and the rhythm of folk dance and music. Above all, Basque people have their own language, Basque or Euskera, whose sounds are embellished through the art of bertsolaritza (oral poetry recitals).
Basque people love tradition, but they are also open to what is new, adding innovation to heritage while clinging to their self-defined identity. Basque people are different. They are unique.
