A Good Idea

Bilbao is home to other great architectural landmarks spread throughout the city. A few meters from the Guggenheim, on the same Abandoibarra promenade along the banks of the estuary, you will find the work of Santiago Calatrava: the Zubi Zuri bridge. Another icon of new Bilbao is the Azkuna Zentroa, a multi-purpose multicultural centre whose atrium and unique configuration are a must-see. The city maintains its essence in its beautiful Old Town, where the seven streets, Plaza Nueva, and the Ribera Market are located, as well as the Santiago Cathedral and bars where you can taste thousands of pintxos.

Also, don’t miss out on the leisure and cultural offerings that the capital has to enjoy throughout the year: Other museums, theatres, opera, music festivals such as Bilbao BBK Live, Bilbao Blues Festival, and the Bilbao Music Legends Fest, in addition to the BIME, performance arts, artistic exhibitions, shops… the culinary offerings: pintxo bars, restaurants… and of course our devotion to the Athletic Club and its cathedral: San Mamés Stadium. Immersing yourself in the city and its culture is easy at any time of the year. Bilbao Basque Fest is the grand event for Basque culture, with some 200 activities for all ages and tastes, and with the end of August comes Aste Nagusia, the city’s biggest celebration.

You can explore the city on foot or by bike, or if you prefer, you can get around using the fantastic public transport network. It is also possible to tour the city by boat from the estuary, where you can see Bilbao from another perspective.
