San Juan De Gaztelugatxe

San Juan de Gaztelugatxe has deep roots in fishing, with offerings, boat models, and paintings of vessels that can be found inside the hermitage. In addition to being a refuge for ancient battles, today it is a Protected Natural Biotope and a place of pilgrimage every 24 June. Climbing up to the hermitage, which is located about 150 meters above sea level, is well worth the effort thanks to its impressive views.

A Good Idea

Take advantage of being just a stone's throw away from Bermeo to enjoy its gastronomy and maritime traditions. Since you’re on the coast, why not visit some of its other towns, swim on its beaches, or let yourself be carried away by the joys of its seaside festivals. If you like nature, the area is home to the only Biosphere Reserve in the Basque Country (Urdaibai), with Gaztelugatxe as its western entrance gate. www.turismourdaibai.com/en
