The Urkiola Natural Park


The Urkiola Natural Park is shaped by mountains and valleys, and stands as the epicentre of Basque mythology. The Sanctuary of Urkiola and the Tres Cruces lookout are a symbol for residents and visitors, and serves as a place of pilgrimage and traditional romerías. The park is home to countless species of plants and animals, and is a paradise for hiking, climbing, and mountain enthusiasts alike.

A Good Idea

This is a land of rich and ranging heritage. Look to the Villa de Durango or the town of Elorrio as an example of this, where you can find the Argiñeta and other resources. Also of note are its deep-rooted Basque cultural traditions, with its winter markets: The San Blas de Abadiño agricultural market and the Basque record and book market (Durangoko Azoka).
