Urdaibai

Declared a Biosphere Reserve in 1984 by UNESCO, Urdaibai is one of Bizkaia’s most important natural spaces. Its natural richness makes it a unique space for birdwatching along with water sports and boating, as well as hiking and bike touring. Urdaibai also has the Ekoetxea Urdaibai, a Biodiversity of Euskadi centre located in Busturia's Madariaga Tower, and the Urdaibai Bird Centre in Gautegiz Arteaga, a living nature museum to discover and enjoy the world of birds and their migrations.

Urdaibai is located in an exceptional enclave surrounded by small towns with charm and history. Among them is Gernika, the most recognised symbol of the Basque people and peace, with its tree and Assembly Hall, the Jai Alai fronton, a Mecca of jai alai scoop, and its famous Monday market. It is also known for places as special and beautiful as the Oma Painted Forest, as well as beaches, marshes, islands, and incredible lookouts. Included among the museum offerings, we find the Fishermen’s Museum, the Euskal Herria Museum, and the Museum of Peace.
