Fishermen's Museum

Located above the Old Port of Bermeo, we find the Ercilla Tower, whose walls have enclosed the rooms of the Fisherman's Museum since 1948. In this museum you can see aspects related to the description of the Basque coast and fishing ports; the life and customs of fishermen, their trade organizations; the boats and the techniques they have used over time for fishing and navigation.

A Good Idea

It is easy to breathe the history and personality of this fishing village. The Old Port is the traditional fishing port of the town. The fishermen's houses keep their medieval layout and shape, and we can find the fountain of "Tres cantos", the oldest preserved in Bizkaia, built at the end of the sixteenth century.

You can also go to the northernmost point of the peninsula, Cape Matxitxako, or visit the famous hermitage of San Juan de Gaztelugatxe after climbing the 241 steps.

To recharge your batteries, enjoy the gastronomy: from the fresh fish of the day, to the tastiest vegetables from the farmhouses of the area, to the most tender meats.

Did you know?

Is the network of museums in Bizkaia very extensive and varied and do they have room for all kinds of exhibitions?
