Fisherman's Museum

Description
Rising above the Old Port of Bermeo stands the historic Ercilla Tower, declared a National Monument, whose walls have housed the Fisherman’s Museum since 1948. This museum is one of the few in the world devoted exclusively to showing visitors the life, work, and traditional fishing and navigation techniques of the Basque coast. Its rooms allow visitors to learn about the guild organization of fishermen, the vessels they used, the techniques employed over time, and the customs of life in Basque fishing ports.
Some visitor routes within the Fisherman’s Museum may present changes in level and limitations inherent to its heritage character. Nevertheless, measures have been implemented to improve accessibility, such as highlighting steps with fluorescent tape, providing clear signage, and removing manually operated litter bins. The museum is part of the inclusive culture programme GertuKultura and is currently training its staff to offer adapted visits for people with Alzheimer’s disease, with the aim of ensuring an inclusive and safe experience. Visitors with specific accessibility needs are advised to contact the museum in advance to obtain information about access conditions, available routes, and support services during the visit.
