The Basilica of Begoña is one of the places most cherished by the people of Bilbao, and its patron saint is affectionately known as “La Amatxu de Begoña”, a very popular way of referring to the Virgin in the city. Every year, around 11 October, thousands of people make their way up to the sanctuary to celebrate her feast day.
