If you enjoy hiking, these 3 routes through Bilbao Bizkaia are a must-see

Bilbao Bizkaia offers hiking routes for all tastes and experience levels. From impressive waterfalls and mountainous landscapes to coastal hikes full of natural beauty, there are endless options for nature and hiking lovers. Whether you are looking for a quiet walk or a new more challenging adventure, the province has something for you. Here are three examples that we highly recommend you don’t miss.

Route to the Nervion Waterfall from Delika

The source of the Nervion is one of the most spectacular natural landscapes in Bilbao Bizkaia. There are various routes that lead to this waterfall, the highest throughout the Iberian Peninsula, but here we want to tell you about the one that starts from the village of Delika.

This route is 8.6 km long and, as we have said, starts from the Álava town of Delika. The trail runs through the bottom of the valley and, due to its low difficulty level, is perfect for families, even with small children. On several occasions along the trail you will have to cross the Delika River until you arrive at the bottom of the waterfall.

Vía Verde de Arrazola

The Greenway of Arrazola is a perfect route for those seeking a gentle and pleasant walk in a natural environment rich in history. This path runs along the old railway line, which connected the town of Zaratamo with the municipality of Arrazola. About 5 kilometres long, the trail passes through a landscape characterised by oak and beech woods and meadows.

The trail is completely flat, so it is perfectly suitable for all ages and levels of fitness, and it can also be cycled. The path runs along the bottom of the Atxondo Valley, with the Anboto Mountain in the distance, in a landscape of truly spectacular natural beauty.

Route from La Galea to Sopelana

This coastal route starts from the Aixerrota windmill, at Punta Galea, Getxo, and ends at the beaches of Arriatera and Atxabiribil, in Sopelana. It is an almost entirely paved, very pleasant walk, which runs through woods, open spaces and, above all, along impressive cliffs marked by erosion.

It is 9 kilometres long and suitable for the any age and physical condition, with water fountains and numerous areas in which to rest, restore your energy and enjoy the incredible landscape.
