The Wave of Mundaka
Go back to TOP 10
Description
Mundaka is located in the heart of the Urdaibai Biosphere Reserve. This charming seaside town attracts surfers from all over the world every year, drawn by what many consider to be the best left-hand wave in Europe. This wave, which breaks over the Mundaka sandbar and finishes at Laida beach, is at its most spectacular during autumn and winter. It is at this time of year that the Mundaka left-hand wave can reach heights of up to 4 metres, thanks to southerly winds. A true mecca for surf enthusiasts.
The Atalaya viewpoint offers outstanding views of the sea and the constant ebb and flow of the waves formed at the mouth of the estuary. Located next to the town’s church, this spot invites visitors to sit on its benches and enjoy the calm and tranquillity of the surrounding natural environment.
