Description
The Bilbao Museum of Artistic Reproductions is one of the oldest in the capital of Bizkaia. In 1927, after five years of difficulties since Manuel Ramírez Escudero presented the motion for its creation, the first Board of Trustees of this institution was formed, equally dependent on the Bizkaia Provincial Council and Bilbao City Council.
At that time, the museum still lacked a collection, which was assembled over the following years using the catalogue of the National Museum of Reproductions. The Board of Trustees contacted the reproduction workshops of the most important European museums to acquire what is now one of the finest collections of its kind.
The Bilbao Museum of Reproductions maintained its structure until 2013, the year in which it became part of Bilbao Bizkaia Museoak S.L. The new entity unified the management of the Museum of Reproductions and Euskal Museoa, given the common characteristics of both cultural facilities.
The Bilbao Museum of Artistic Reproductions is located in a refurbished urban building with access from the public street. The exhibition space is organised through clear and well-defined interior routes. Accessibility conditions may vary depending on the areas open to visitors and the exhibition layout; therefore, people with specific accessibility needs are advised to contact the museum in advance to obtain information about available access points and support services during the visit.
In addition, the museum offers at least four activities aimed at groups with functional diversity, addressing themes ranging from fantastic creatures to ancient Greek culture.
