Images

The image shows a wide and open view of Gorliz Bay under clear weather conditions. In the foreground, a broad expanse of compact, damp sand extends almost entirely at ground level, with no visible obstacles, allowing pedestrian movement at low tide, although the firmness of the sand may vary depending on the area and environmental conditions. In the central area, the shoreline is visible with moderate waves and scattered people walking near the water, providing scale and depth references. In the background, the open sea can be seen, and to the right, a rocky headland covered with vegetation defines the edge of the bay. Overall, the scene presents an open natural space with good visibility, a clear horizon and no vertical elements that hinder orientation, making the environment easy to interpret from a spatial perspective.

Description

The Gorliz Bay route starts in the square opposite Gorliz Tourist office, holder of the Basque tourist accessibility certificate. Going down along the slightly sloping Calle Eloisa Artaza to the pedestrian crossing, where we cross to the new walkway going through the pinewood heading directly to the beach. Go down a small ramp to the path turning left and now walk along the promenade that follows the coastline.

There are public wheelchair accessible WCs open all year round in this place. 200m approx., with the sea on our right we find a vantage point overlooking the beach, and a few metres away we have the PiE-UPV/EHU Plentzia Marine Station.

Another few metres along and we have the bus stop, first-aid post and public wheelchair accessible WCs during the summer season. On our return journey the sea is on our left, so going back over our tracks we cover the entire beach/coast with adapted access at several points. The historic Gorliz Sanatorium is on our left and our route continues without obstacles like kerbs or other physical obstacles.

There are non-adapted information panels along the approx.150m until we reach the Astondo vantage point. On reaching the Astondo vantage point and quay we have views of Gorliz Bay, Plentzia estuary and even Muriola (Barrika) beach. We find here a point of historical interest, i.e., a monument to Doctor Areilza. Then leaving behind the Astondo quay or vantage point we go back to the route with Gorliz Bay and beach on our right. In front there is a single floor white building which is the reference point to leave Gorliz Bay promenade turning right and coming across a car park.
