Church of Santa María - Andra Mari
Go back to TOP 10
Description
The Church of Andra Mari or Santa María is the oldest religious building in Galdakao and one of the main heritage elements of the municipality. Its medieval origin, from the 13th century, gives it significant historical and architectural value, closely linked to the identity and religious life of the town.
The temple is located in an area of great cultural relevance, linked to the old Camino de la Costa, one of the secondary routes of the Camino de Santiago, which historically made it a stopping point for pilgrims. A visit provides insight into the religious heritage and Jacobean tradition of the region, in a setting that preserves the historical character of the area and is part of a cultural route connecting some of the main heritage landmarks of Biscay.
From the accessibility perspective, the Church of Santa María has a ramp providing access for people with reduced mobility. However, due to the existing slope, the ramp requires assistance from another person to use it. The access includes handrails, offering extra security when entering and exiting the temple. As a heritage site, it does not feature specific adaptations in all its areas. For visits with specific accessibility requirements, it is recommended to inquire beforehand about the access conditions.
