Visit to the El Pobal Ironworks

A living museum of the iron and milling industries

EL POBAL FORGE

Description of the activity/company

The El Pobal Ironworks, declared a Monumental Complex, is a living museum of the iron and milling industry. It stands in a beautiful bend of the Barbadun River, whose waters moved this hydraulic complex from the beginning of the 16th century to the mid-20th century. It is undoubtedly the best preserved forge of the numerous ones in Bizkaia - nearly 300! - and the only one that has survived to this day with a good part of the original machinery.

An authentic jewel of our historical and technological heritage. Every Saturday of the year and at special events, a complete iron demonstration is offered, which is distinctive of the museum's programming. The launch of the unique stone bellows, the wheels

hydraulics or the pile hammer that shapes the iron extracted from the red-hot furnace is a fundamental part of the visit to this complex.
