HONTZA MUSEOA

Museum of Natural Sciences at the National and International level

Visit for groups of people, families, schools or alone, ideal for interacting with nature and biodiversity from around the world.

It is located in Mañaria, at the gates of the Urkiola Natural Park and with a spectacular environment of limestone massifs and constant flights of birds of prey such as the Griffon Vulture.

The guided tour at the HONTZA MUSEOA lasts around 1 hour and a half, depending on the interest of the group up to 2 hours.

In this guided tour we are going to start with a Geology room where we are going to find sands from around the world, rocks, minerals and fossils. Then we will start with the family of animals where in this second room we will begin to learn about the different invertebrates from around the world such as spiders, insects, crustaceans, corals and different types of sponges. In the entrance hall we will also find the temporary exhibition that is offered throughout the school year.

On the second floor we will begin with the marine part, where we will find different conchs and bivalves from all over the world, starfish, sea urchins, freshwater and sea fish and a small naturalization of a seabed where we will find different types of sharks, corals, sunfish, penguins, etc.

In the next room we will find the two rooms dedicated to birds along with some mammals and small reptiles differentiated by their origins. Then we will move on to the botanical part and to finish two naturalizations, one European and the other exotic, of mammals, birds and reptiles, where we can observe bears, lions, wolves, macaws and a number of unknown reptiles. We have a section where visitors can come into contact with different animals, corals and fossils.

It is an ideal experience for everyone, but those who enjoy it the most are the little ones who are very surprised to have such wild animals so close to them.
