The Museo de la Paz de Gernika abre as Museo Gernika on April 7, 1998.

For which we are dealing with a municipal museum that addresses, mainly, the theme of the history of Gernika-Lumo and the terrible bombardment of the city during the Spanish Civil War.

From the year 2003, following the realization of a museográfico project and ejecución del mismo, se convierte en un Museo de la Paz (the first of Euskadi and todo el estado español) y pasa a abordar also, topics related to the culture of the paz y de los derechos humanos.

Our museum welcomes individual and group visitors throughout the year and its variety of activities offered to all of them.

The groups (more than 8 people) could carry out free tours or tours inside the museum, in addition to outdoor tour guides, tours that are part of the "Memoritour Gernika" program that focuses on the memorial, symbolic, historical heritage y cultural of the villa. Its 4 routes offered:

- Anti-aircraft refugees: tests of the bombardment of April 26, 1937

- The reconstruction of Gernika tras el bombardeo

- Picasso and the Guernica

- War correspondents in Gernika

Schools are also offered the possibility of achieving various educational opportunities.

Individual visitors in addition to visiting the freely accessible museum, during the months of July and August, can take part in free guided tours offered at 5:00 p.m. at Martes Viernes, (previo pago de la entry) and guided guided tours of the exterior mentioned previously (from lunes to domingo to las 12:45).

In addition to the 4 routes of the ''Memoritour Gernika'' program, particular visitors can realize other 3 guided routes related to the theme of the museum on special occasions:

- The cemetery of Gernika: testigo of the civil war

- The women of Gernika: the changes of siglo XX through their lives

- Monuments and memories
