Karpin Fauna
On a century-old estate of 20 hectares, from which you can see one of the most spectacular valleys in the Basque geography, BBK Karpín Fauna is a refuge for more than 55 different species, which due to irresponsible acts of human beings, can no longer live in freedom.
In addition, in an area of closed forest along the route, we find two areas that take us back to the Jurassic era and the animals that populated the planet after the disappearance of the dinosaurs. The facilities are intended to have as little pavement as possible and the animals have natural vegetation to protect themselves and shelters in which to take shelter.

It is a wildlife reception center with the aim of improving the situation of animals.
The center is not considered a zoo, since its main function is to improve the lives of animals in a state of need.

Karpin Fauna is located in the region of Enkarterri-Meatzaldea, the largest in the territory. It offers an endless number of places, activities and resources which complete a very extensive offer for all types of public.
Here you can visit, for example, the medieval towns of Balmaseda and Lanestosa, as well as the resources and part of the mining and industrial legacy. The Itsaslur Greenway, today converted into a pleasant promenade, was an area for mineral loading docks.

Are there other animal centres and shelters in Bizkaia that can be visited? Among others, we find Basondo, the Urdaibai wildlife refuge, the Bizkaia Wildlife Recovery Centre in Gorliz or also bird watching spaces called Urdaibai Bird Center.
