Description
Ailarak Musiktopa is a cultural centre located in Artea, dedicated to the promotion of Basque folk music and the rural traditions of the surrounding area. It originates from the renovation of the former Artea Ecomuseum, which has been transformed into a larger space designed to become a reference point for Basque musical and cultural heritage. The centre aims to serve as a meeting place for those who value tradition, culture and heritage, combining nature, history and music within a single setting.
The museum is organised into seven distinct spaces, designed to offer both a visual and sound-based experience: a sculpture park featuring sound art installations; a reception and services area (information point, shop and toilets); indoor exhibition spaces; areas displaying anthropological pieces and sound recreations of traditional baserri activities; a wooded area surrounding the former ironworks with an artistic light installation; an auxiliary building for small-scale musical performances, listening sessions or workshops; and acoustically equipped classrooms for the local music school.
The museum is scheduled to be inaugurated in the coming months, although it will be fully operational from September 2026, coinciding with the start of the new academic year at the local conservatoire.
The ecomuseum has been designed to be accessible and comfortable for all types of visitors. It features adapted paths and access points, accessible indoor and outdoor exhibition areas, and listening and workshop spaces prepared for people with reduced mobility. Educational spaces and rehearsal rooms include both physical and acoustic accessibility, enabling participation by people with different needs. The layout and signage of the complex facilitate orientation and independent movement throughout the museum.
This facility meets minimum accessibility criteria, as verified by specialised technical professionals.
