Tour de France 2023, a memorable event

There is no doubt that 1 July 2023 will be a historic date for cycling in Bizkaia, with the start of the Tour de France and the first stage crossing the Bizkaia region, providing a unique opportunity for all cycling enthusiasts.

- Stage 1 of the Tour, like the pros

The first stage goes up several small peaks such as Laukiz, San Juan de Gaztelugatxe, Morga, the Vivero passing through El Gallo and the steep final climbs of Pike Bidea.

It is a demanding route for which you need to be in shape not only to complete it, but also to fully take in the surroundings

- The 1st stage is shorter, less demanding but just as beautiful

This route is less challenging in terms of preparation as it is a shorter adaptation of the first stage of the tour, starting and finishing in the capital, covering beauty spots such as the Laukiz pass, the Bizkaia Bridge, Plentzia, the Andraka and Umbe passes and Pike Bidea.

In addition, on 11 June, it will be possible to cycle the same route as the first stage of the Tour de France in a unique edition with the idea of involving the amateur public in this event.

Cycling close to Bilbao

There are two routes: one for road bikes (Bilbao Road itzulia) and another for mountain bikes (Bilbao Green itzulia). Both routes stop at Artxanda, allowing you to enjoy a breathtaking view of Bilbao.

You can cycle routes that wind their way through the green forests and valleys of Bizkaia. Pure nature is interspersed with towns with an important industrial heritage that still plays a major role.
