Turismo responsable en Urdaibai de la mano de Gotzon Mantuliz

El estuario formado por el río Oka en su encuentro con el Cantábrico es un verdadero refugio natural para la vida silvestre, un puerto seguro que se adentra entre valles y montañas y la resguarda de la fuerza del mar. Uno de esos lugares donde la expresión ‘paraíso natural’ cobra sentido real.
Declarada Reserva de la Biosfera por la UNESCO e integrante de la Red Natura, Urdaibai está formada por bosques, prados y ríos, acantilados, playas y arenales, humedales y marismas. Constituye una de las áreas con mayor diversidad paisajística de Euskadi, y es el hogar de una amplia variedad de plantas, hongos y animales.
Una de las características de este frágil ecosistema es que, pese a la constante presencia humana en la zona, como atestiguan los restos prehistóricos y las pinturas rupestres en la Cueva de Santimamiñe -declarada Patrimonio de la Humanidad en 2008 -, el yacimiento romano de Forua, el puerto de Bermeo, la Casa de Juntas de Gernika -símbolo de las libertades vascas-, o los pequeños pueblos y caseríos que salpican el paisaje, se ha logrado un equilibrio entre la naturaleza y la actividad humana.
El influencer y colaborador de Zapeando Gotzon Mantuliz, comprometido con el medio ambiente y especialmente en la lucha contra el vertido de plásticos al mar, defiende y practica el turismo sostenible, responsable con el entorno natural, cuidadoso con los recursos naturales y respetuoso con las costumbres locales. Y precisamente por eso Gotzon disfruta tanto en Urdaibai, porque se puede visitar preservando la riqueza ecológica y la belleza de este entorno inigualable.
Por ejemplo, Urdaibai ofrece la posibilidad de posibilidad de avistar, sin interferir en su hábitat, más de 200 especies de aves que pasan por la Reserva en sus viajes migratorios desde el Urdaibai Bird Center; o salir a navegar para encontrar los cetáceos que recalan en la costa de Bilbao Bizkaia, como los enigmáticos zifios de cuvier o enormes rorcuales. Uno de los mejores lugares para conocer la naturaleza y biodiversidad de Euskadi es Ekoetxea –el Centro de Biodiversidad de Euskadi - Madariaga Dorretxea–, ubicado en Busturia.
Otra forma responsable de conocer la Reserva es acercarse en transporte público y recorrer a pie o en bicicleta sus múltiples rutas y senderos para encontrarnos frente a impresionantes paisajes. La costa, entre acantilados y playas, ofrece espectaculares vistas, como las de la excepcional San Juan de Gaztelugatxe, una isla unida a tierra por 241 escalones; igualmente deslumbrantes son el entorno del Cabo Matxitxako, el más saliente del Cantábrico y un lugar ideal para el submarinismo; la isla de Izaro, en la desembocadura del Oka, refugio natural para aves y especies marinas; y el Cabo de Ogoño, tras el que se encuentra el escarpado Elantxobe. Las ermitas de San Pedro de Atxarre, en Ibarrangelu, y San Miguel de Ereñozar, en Ereño, en el interior, son dos de los mejores miradores naturales sobre la Reserva.
Remando en canoa podremos descubrir las riberas del Oka a su paso por Gautegiz Arteaga, Ibarrangelu, Murueta, Busturia y Sukarrieta desde un punto de vista diferente. Si te gusta el surf, Mundaka te espera con su famosa ola izquierda, mientras que las playas Laga y Laida y las calas Antzoras, Lapatza o Aritzatxu son perfectas para darse un baño, y los pueblos marineros y las localidades del interior nos esperan para descubrir la historia de Bizkaia y degustar nuestra aclamada gastronomía.
Para redondear cualquier visita a Urdaibai, nada mejor que visitar alguna de las bodegas de txakoli para conocer el proceso de elaboración de este vino tan nuestro, que reúne la tradición con la innovación, la dedicación y el cuidado del entorno para obtener un caldo diferente, con personalidad propia.
