Descubrimos los rincones secretos de la naturaleza de Bizkaia junto al aventurero
Bizkaia está llena de parajes ocultos, apartados del bullicio de las ciudades y de las rutas y senderos más concurridos. Parajes escondidos donde la naturaleza se muestra en todo su esplendor. Para "descubrir sitios secretos y poder disfrutar de la naturaleza en estado puro", como el presentador Gotzon Mantuliz, no hay más que ponerse un buen calzado de monte y estar dispuesto a la aventura.
Uno de esos rincones especiales, en los que respirar naturaleza y descubrir los mitos y las leyendas de nuestros antepasados, es la Cueva de Baltzola, en la localidad de Dima. En pleno Parque Natural de Urkiola, la erosión del agua y el viento ha creado en las rocas bajo la montaña estas misteriosas grutas, salas y galerías, que además de ser todo un espectáculo geológico subterráneo, también son el refugio ideal para los seres mitológicos que pueblan Bizkaia.
En las cavidades de Baltzola hay quienes han visto atusarse el pelo con sus peines de oro a las bellas lamias, seres mitológicos que en su parte superior son mujer, mientras que su parte inferior están dotadas con extremidades de animal (de pato, pescado o garras, según las versiones). Las estancias de Baltzola también son el hogar del marido de Mari, la Dama de Anboto –diosa vasca por excelencia–, el oscuro Sugoi, capaz de cambiar su apariencia y adoptar forma humana o de serpiente o dragón, y de Mikelatz, uno de los hijos de tan singular pareja.
Los gentiles, los gigantes moradores pobladores de Bizkaia antes de la llegada del cristianismo, también han dejado huella de su paso por este lugar. Gracias a su increíble fuerza, y para poder ocultarse de los cristianos mientras iban de un monte a otro, construyeron con enormes piedras obras como Jentilzubi, 'el Puente de los Gentiles', que aún podemos admirar a pocos metros de la cueva de Baltzola.
En este entorno tan especial también se encuentra el yacimiento arqueológico más antiguo de Bizkaia, el Abrigo de Axlor, en el que se han encontrado restos de presencia humana en el Paleolítico Medio (150.000 - 40.000 a.C) y de animales que vivían aquí en esa época: cabras montesas, ciervos, caballos, osos de las cavernas y renos.
Las paredes de Baltzola son un paraíso para la aventura, y en especial para las personas que disfruten con la escalada. Varias vías, algunas de dificultad extrema, ascienden por la roca vertiginosamente por las entradas a la cueva, desafiando la gravedad y el vértigo de quienes las escalan.
Otro de los rincones especiales que Bizkaia reserva a las personas más aventureras es el Salto del Nervión, en Orduña. Como no podía ser de otra manera, la poderosa Ría de Bilbao, la principal arteria que atraviesa la capital del Territorio y pasa por debajo del monumental Puente Bizkaia en su camino hasta el mar, tiene un nacimiento digno de admiración: la cascada más alta de la Península Ibérica.
En el límite entre Álava, Burgos y Bizkaia, este espectacular salto de agua de 270 metros de altura que se abre paso hacia el valle desde lo alto de Sierra Salvada, entre los bosques de hayas y los fotogénicos riscos que caen al vacío. Además de admirar desde el mirador que se encuentra en la parte superior de la cascada la cola de agua que se forma en la caída, especialmente caudalosa en los meses más lluviosos, el entorno natural del Salto del Nervión ofrece un sinfín de oportunidades para los deportes al aire libre y rutas con diferentes niveles de dificultad para practicar senderismo, montañismo o ciclismo. Y para quienes quieran disfrutar del sobrecogedor paisaje a vista de pájaro, también se pueden practicar parapente y saltos en ala delta para volar junto al agua y las aves que planean en el cielo.
En Bizkaia se pueden encontrar lugares escondidos llenos de vida salvaje y natural para disfrutar de la aventura. ¡No hay más que salir a descubrirlos!
