The value of diversity. Pride in who we are

In Bilbao Bizkaia, pride is much more than a word or a date on the calendar. It is an attitude, a character trait. It is part of people's DNA and a natural characteristic of an environment and a society in which the demand and struggle for visibility and equality have always been present.

Bilbao Bizkaia HARRO!

For almost a decade now, Bilbao has hosted Bilbao Bizkaia HARRO, a platform dedicated to advocating, showcasing, and celebrating gender diversity.

Every June, the capital of Biscay is awash with vibrant rainbow colours, hosting a plethora of activities such as shows, entertainment, and gastronomic routes.

In addition, Bilbao Bizkaia HARRO also organises guided tours showing the most significant scenes for this community in the past and present. These tours include direct testimonies and documents that illustrate how LGBTI+ individuals have connected and been represented throughout history.

Bizkaia's PRIDE, which at the end of June also extends to Mundaka, Santurtzi and Plentzia, attracts a growing number of visitors. It has positioned our region as a welcoming and exemplary model at the European level, particularly in the Atlantic region, making it an event not to be missed.

Normalisation and non-discrimination are fundamental shared commitments, and, for this reason, Bilbao Bizkaia continues to work on the creation and strengthening of equality networks, training plans and protocols that link institutions, companies and social partners.

Aste Nagusia: open and inclusive festivities with a mayor LGBTI+ programme

During the second fortnight of August the Aste Nagusia or Bilbao's Big Week is celebrated. These festivals are unique in the world not only for their popular and participatory nature and their incredible atmosphere, but also for the extensive programme of performances and events linked to the LGBTI+ community.

Concerts, drink and food stands, cultural events... Bilbao's Aste Nagusia lasts 9 days during which fun, recognition and acceptance, tradition and culture dominate the city and melt together in a way that can only be fully appreciated through personal experience.

Prime Spot in a film lover's paradise

Between February and March, Bilbao Bizkaia hosts Zinegoak, the International Film and Performing Arts Festival Gaylesbitrans. The commitment to diversity is brought to the big screen in a prestigious event in which the public can also vote for the best short film.

Zinegoak is pride cinema... and more, as during the days of the festival the capital of Bizkaia hosts talks, parties in a vibrant atmosphere.

Throughout winter, summer, Pride month, and beyond, Bilbao Bizkaia embodies inclusivity and diversity, providing everyone the opportunity to freely express themselves and love whomever they choose.
