The Painted Forest of Oma, in Kortezubi, is a magical place where Bilbao-born painter and sculptor Agustín Ibarrola has left his mark on the trees. Created in 1984, the Painted Forest invites visitors to find their own path through the colourful trees. There is a different forest for each person. Find below a downloadable brochure. Remember that we have lots of attractions… There is a life beyond Bilbao, from Durangalde and Arratia to Las Encartaciones, bordering Cantabria. Orduña, a place surrounded by mountains on the border with Castile. And there are fishing villages, small villages featuring baserris (farmhouses), and Gernika, the most iconic town of the Basque people. While caressing the shores, the Cantabrian Sea accommodates extensive beaches, steep cliffs, caves, mountains plunging into its waters, undersea arches, and a rich marine biodiversity. From shipwrecks in Muskiz to an underwater mountain range in Sopela that is home to lobsters and conger eels. In Bermeo there are vertigo-inducing cliffs, caves with moonfish and Peter’s fish, and on the eastern shores of cape Matxitxako, there lie the remains of the Mina Mari coal vessel. Plunge your way into an exciting underwater adventure.
